Rating: 4-Stars (Excellent)
Type: New York Style
Pizza Ordered: Cheese Slice
Overall: The New York style slice is as important in the pizza world as any other presentation. Not only does it harken back to pizza's roots as a "street food", but let's face it, sometimes you don't want a whole pie; or your want to walk and eat!
Well, only a stones throw from Manhattan, Benny Tudino's has been serving up a large classic slice for over 50 years. The slice at Benny' is about as close to perfection as I've had in a while. Although fairly large, the slice is perfectly foldable, manageable and full of classic flavor and texture. This is a Don't Miss if you are in the Hoboken, NJ area.
Crust: Benny's does the New York Style crust right. The crust is slightly crispy around the edges, and back edge, and firm, foldable, and chewy in the interior and center.
Sauce: The sauce on the Benny's slice is a classic blend tomato sauce, with subtle herbs and a signature, slightly tangy sweetness. The sauce is present, but doesn't overwhelm the slice.
Cheese: The cheese on the Benny's slice is excellent quality, seemingly high-moisture mozzarella, just oily enough, but not messy. As with the sauce the cheese blends well with the overall flavors.
Service: Classic, no-nonsense, but friendly.
Utensils: Utensils are adequate; however, the napkins are a bit flimsy.
