Review of Andy's Pizza at Atlas Brew Works - Navy Yard, 1201 Half St. SE, Washington, DC

Rating: 3-Stars (Very Good)

Type: New York Style

Pizza Ordered: Cheese Slice

Overall: During this trip to Washington, DC, I decided to seek out slices, since I had visited several "whole-pie" pizzerias on recent visits.

The industrial chic, Atlas Brewery at Navy Yard houses one of several locations of Andy's Pizza. At this location, near the Washington Nationals stadium, Andy's offers their popular pies, but also pizza by-the-slice; and they do the New York style slice right.

Crust: Andy's stone-deck oven crust is a very good New York style product. The crust is thin, has a thickened, chewy back edge, adequate browning, and is foldable with a slight crispiness.

Sauce: Andy's sauce is a high-quality tomato blend that harmonizes smoothly with the overall slice flavor without any stand-out acidity. As well, the sauce is applied sparingly, as not to make the slice wet or messy.

Cheese: Andy's uses a high-quality, low-moisture, American mozzarella. The cheese was not overly applied and added that great, slightly oily, salty character you want in a New York style slice.

Service: Very friendly and accommodating!

Atmosphere: A busy industrial space vibe.

Utensils: Nothing fancy, but quite adequate for a slice.
